This side of the mountain range has been pretty smoke free... Almost eerie. I was going to head that way this morning for a quickie, but I needed to stay in cell range.

I'd be up for a Wednesday night Luge run... I have a new light I need to try out. @mtnbikej ?

Edit: Someone posted on the RSM Patch site that there is a roadblock at Santiago and Silverado.

Weir Canyon Loop from Irvine Park is/was probably my very favorite after work ride.

We got evacuated last night. We walked in to see our intact house, then rode over to a still smoldering Peters. There is still smoke rising from oaks visible from here.

Probably going to be a while getting anything open to ride.

Maybe it's because I have not been able to see it up close but this fire does not look as damaging (to the ground, earth) as the fire 10 years ago. The property damage to homes is tragic and the I am saddened for those displaced and/or lost their home.
The last fire the ground was charred deep and you could see it burned the roots and soil; this looks like it was so quick moving it burned the surface scrub and loose branches. Here is a photo from my walk tonight overlooking Jamboree and Santiago Cyn entrance.
Just my novice and far-away observation.
Glad everyone is safe and thanks for all the support from the IMTB team.

Hopefully, even if they close it for awhile, they'll let JK work on the trails. He's got drainage work down, and good drainage will mitigate some of the extra run-off due to lack of brush.

This looks a lot better than I was expecting, thanks so much for sharing. My main concern was the big oaks, but even a lot of the medium trees/bushes look to have survived. Agree with kioti, great time to get some work done, especially on drainage.

That’s encouraging to see the shape Oaks is in. The helicopters were working hard back in there.

    Hi everyone!

If anyone that lives in Orange County is available this afternoon to come and assist with fire damage debris removal at my barn, please let me know. The more people we have the quicker the work will get done. We are unable to bring our horses home until we get the big debris removed. Please PM if you are interested, willing and available.

    Thanks!

Some good information on the status of the park

Looks like the Irvine Open Space (Weir/Fremont) got a big hit and i guess it will take a long time before they will do guided rides there again. It is a pretty area.

The re-opening of the Irvine Park will be the priority (most usage by the public)

And some more information with director of OC Parks being interviewed:

    http://www.ocregister.com/2017/10/1...ost-popular-trails-will-be-closed-for-months/

Most of the acreage burnt seems to be indeed the Irvine Open Space.

It will be a challenge for them to keep people off the trails as long as it is needed for the land to recover...
