I can see myself doing this again... Even with the shorter route. I would definitely go with normal tires for the 100 miler, not the skinny minnies.

Well I hope you'll be a returning customer! The 100 mile route is up in the air. Everyone wants to have it, but not if we can't do it right. Six months to figure that out!
Nope, that's on the 11th: http://truegritepic.com/ No excuses!!!

I've done it before on my CX and got my ass kicked. Might do it this year; might also have another event the same weekend.
Glad they have different distances; and an incredibly great value.

One of my friends said he already signed up. Is that because he did it last year and is still a member; or is he confused?

Hope you can make it out, Jim. I really like having the mountain bike crowd present, no matter what bike they're on!
I'm not sure about the sign ups being open for members, but I appreciate his enthusiasm!!! :)

I plan on doing it again, even if the 100 miler isn't there.

I will do it on the single speed again, but I'll go with normal XC tires, not the 700x40s I ran last time.

Anybody need a set of WTB Nanos? Only about 300 miles on them... They set up tubeless with no issues on a plain old Arch 29er wheel.

Glad to have a repeater! I think we have a real high amount of repeat riders. Right now the talk is to have an 80-90 option, but the 100 is still on the table.

    700 x 40... Free to a good home!

Edit: I know they're foldable, but can they be safely refolded and stuck in the mail?

I'm in for the metric century. I'd rather ride for just 6 hrs and have energy left to hang aroun eat and drink beer.

Can't do a 90 mile ride. If you 90, you gotta do 100...::it's in the rules

The 100 was fun.....however there were a couple of rough stretches along the way. The last 10 miles weren't great, but now that I have been out there I have a better idea for next time.

I'm back in again this year as well... On the CX/Gravel bike. I'll most likely do the longer route this time (if there is one).

It does fall on the same day as the Camp Pendleton Hellfire race... I've always wanted to try that after doing the road century out there. But, I'll stick to Redlands for now.

Yeah... 80 or 90 doesn't carry the same weight when bragging to friends! It would be even better if we could get it over 100. Even 101 would work.

"Yeah, Guys... I did this ride in Redlands on my 40 pound mountain bike. It was way over 100 miles..." :whistling:

Couple of updates, on a rainy December day (will be plenty of green in the hills!).
We've confirmed that registration is opening on January first. We're planning on accommodating up to 500 riders (there were ~350 riders last year). So a touch larger. Rain or shine event.

This time we will be staging it out of Ritual Brewing, which has been an amazing and generous sponsor & supporter for all four years. They have a large space, real toilets, great brews as well non-alcoholic soda pop. Food is going to be catered by a local food truck and along with a pint from Ritual, will be included with registration. Cost will be $45-$65 depending on route.

There is also a FB event page if that's your thing.

The event is a fundraiser the Inland Empire Biking Alliance... a non-profit local organization with the mission of getting more people riding bikes... good people there!

Family friendly event and location. It's a tough ride, but one you can tailor to your own preferences. Cut it short, ride extra, skip a dirt section, bail out early... whatever works for you! Multi-surface, with close to a 50/50 split of dirt and asphalt. Dirt is (mostly) all hard-pack smooth trail and roads are (mostly) lightly traveled. Come on out and see what all the fuss is about!

And now posting on a rainy day in January... very thematic!

Registration is open, and is a two-part process: Join IEBA, then register for ride. Ride is for members only, similar to Archipelago ride in SD. RSR is a fund-raiser and membership drive. Still a great deal and a good day in the saddle! Food is going to be catered by http://qworksbbq.com/ Good stuff there! And as mentioned, the ride will be out of Ritual Brewing, with the first round included in registration.
This is a pretty cool list of similar rides on the west coast: http://www.granfondoguide.com/

Whichever bike you are more comfortable on for six hours! I think the answer skews towards the MTB side. I'd rather be on something that has 2" tires with some sort of knobs, but my "road bike" can do that! Hope you can make it!!!

My only concern is the cutoff times... They were a little out of whack last year for the 100 miler, and we're outside the curve on the single speeds.

Big benefit is that you know what to expect from the terrain. Without knowing the specific route, at least the terrain, elevation, and some trails will be familiar to you. That's going to give returning riders an edge!
