    True. The hard smooth area around the cleat does contact the pedal. If the actual rubber sole makes contact, you will have a hard time clipping in and out.

    Brass cleat banging against stainless steel clip which substantially limits shoe to pedal movement in two planes with the help of the bottom of the shoe making contact with the top of the clip.
