What the h-e-double hockey sticks does a "longer training ride" mean for you? Riding to and up Mt. Whitney and back from home?

The Skyline ride would have been about 20 miles/3000' ascent. I need to get in double that. Have the Grizzly in 3 weeks and Wrightwood 50 in 5 weeks.

It'll either be Home to Blackstar then ?? or Home/Oaks/Chino Hills. I'll decide in the morning.

Everyone's faking. Your little group will be getting ready in the parking lot, and then, all of a sudden you will hear a terrifying noise. There will be a Greek God on a bike without tires approaching you with 25 extra riders following him! One of you will be presented a card with a check in it.

Happens every week. It's an IMTB custom now.

I woke up at 4am to help my wife get ready for her flight out of LAX. I check the thread to see a ride dissolving quickly. I made the decision to stay home and ride local. I got a lot of work done by 11 and conned my son into driving up to Big Bear after all. We stopped into the in-laws home and the sprinkles started.

That was our cue to stay for lunch and watch some football. The clouds stayed dark but it was mostly dry at 4:30 so I geared up.

Hmmmm, which steed shall I ride.

I grabbed the Cutthroat and started the climb up Moonridge. I have this bike for a 10-day trial so I pulled over at the top for some adjustments. What a difference vs. my cross bike. The CX is smoother but at 20 psi the Salsa is not far behind. I absolutely love the Cowchipper bars and full hydro brakes. With no toe overlap the swithbacks are much easier. Number 1 is the huge traction advantage with the wide tires. I need $4K right away.

I only rode over to Grandview and was starting to lose light, so I took 2N10 proper to get back for dinner. Hopefully, I can beat the rain in the morning for a big loop. Proof my bike was there -

The 80% chance of rain a little pessimistic. Today was absolutely perfect. Not a drop of rain all day, just big puffy white clouds. 50° at 9am and a nice 10 mph breeze all day long. I only saw four other riders all morning.

The Cutthroat is such a sweet ride. I'm going to do a lot of riding this week. Oh yeah, the dirt was perfect. I did a bunch of exploring and ended up backtracking to Plantation for a mellow ride into town. The trail was super wet and tacky. The water crossing was a good 20' across but still only 4" deep. I hit another 3 water crossings on the extension. A very fine day to pedal in the mountains.
