Got to Peltzer, had to evacuate... so I drove to Ms trailhead and parked there and used the "facility". (Seriously, when do they empty that thing?)

So I just park there and hit Maple Springs Road. Plan on a peak tag, then retrace and down motorway.

Riding and chat up and pass three nice dudes. Then, I see a can, and a battery, and some plastic. So I figured, "Hey, forget the peak and just pick up every piece of trash, can and bottle that I see. Every single one."

So that's what I did. It was frustrating because I think I stopped and dismounted 30 times or so. By the top of MS, my pack was full. At one point, I left my gloves somewhere. I descended to look for them and a really nice guy from Warrior S was riding up with them. He was on a speshy Hardtail I think his name was Sharone.

The views were ridiculous, the trail was in great shape. The riders (and the hikers on Motorway) were friendly. And I was back at the car before I knew it- with a pack FULL of trash.

    Inspired by the Mcg's.

We can make a difference, one Modelo can at a time.

I ran a pretty fun / effective "Trash for Cash" contest during 2 summers on STR maybe we / I could do something similar here. It was pretty low cost/ effort vs effective.

@StrandLeper good job sir !! It is sad that people go out to hike/ride and suppousedly love the outdoors and leave trash behind  . I can imagine that people "oh the trail/mountain was beautiful, ohh my empty bottle I will leave it here and someome will pick it up for sure :)" and there they go hiking/biking back home without care ... @ssholes.

It's been suggested on here before... But maybe a semi-organized ride for the purpose of picking up trash would be a good idea. Imagine how much trash 6 of us could carry out with a garbage bag each...

    "Some" trash??
Major kudos to you @StrandLeper ! Good thing you had a pack to haul all that trash out.
I picked up some empty beer bottles once and stashed them in my jersey rear pockets, all the while I was afraid to crash and have those things break and cut me.
Pisses me off people can be such slobs.

Thanks all. Didn't post this for props (but thanks again)- but to show that one pissed off dude with a pack can clean a 5-7 mile trail in one run. It was COLD at the start, so I wore a pack. Good thing as you note @Luis . Organized rides are awesome, but every bit helps. On a ride, not crushing it-pick up some trash. I looked at it as interval -ish. Trash pickup, remount, hammer at good pace to next piece of trash... repeat. The games that I play to trick myself into sh$t...

@SL --- way to go; only thing worse than litterers IMO are individuals who place their dog poop in plastic bags, then throw them on the trail.

Every time I visit my property up in Landers, I have to walk the lot and pick up trash that the careless neighbors across the street allow to blow out of their trash cans. several years back, I actually found a piece of discarded mail with their name and address on it which I promptly turned over to the County when I filed a complaint. For some reason, those neighbors were no longer friendly to me after that.

A general thanks for packing out trash you find. I keep doing it, too. It sux to stop when you're on a climbing roll, but WTH, I don't care anymore. I don't even get pissed about it anymore. I'm actually thankful that that unenlightened dumbfuk didn't spray paint a tree or cause a fire.

Next time I will carry a bag on my pocket or pack. Lately skyline is full of hikers due to the foothill pkwy opening  and some of them hikers love the outdoors but don't love to pick up after them.

I really don't get that. You hike miles back into the forest then tag a rock or a tree with paint/sharpie. It not like a bunch of your homies are spending a lot of time out in nature, let alone your competition for turf.

Ah yes, BC tagging, WTF? I guess they don't realize we own that shite no matter what they do out there :sneaky:

I whacked some graffiti on Friday, too – keeping the new bridge at Pear Crossing looking new :stop:. Freaking cockroaches. Let's go take a hike...I got my spray paint and markers... o_O

    BIG THANKS!
We should put together a Trash Run. Pick a trail and cruse for trail trash (not to be mistaken for Trail-er Trash :whistling:)
I'm going to move this to the Trail Advocacy Forum in hopes this becomes a long winded thread of how we are doing our part.

Great idea, Mikie! I'm always up for neighborhood beautification, in any neighborhood. This is great PR on top of just being a good idea.

I'm happy to report that the vast majority of the south end of the Santa Anas is in pretty good shape, and I could not ID one trail that needs bum-rushed by the trash squad. But please holler if you guys come up with a candidate – down here or wherever.

We could do a RR and send a link to the relevant management agency – I will def let Trab Ranger Dist know about our exploits down here. They already know I'm a chronic neatnick.

    We got the power! :)
