I need some new baggy shorts. I was very interested in the new Voler MTB offering, but then discovered that it's just the shell without the liner. I prefer the all in one style.
Used to love Nema, but they seem to be downhill only now.
    What are you wearing/liking?

Your type of riding??? I love the Fox Rangers, good liner, durable outer, good in warm weather. A nice feature I've started to look at in shorts is how much they "stick" to the saddle. I hate getting off and on the saddle and the shorts don't slide easily.

I've been very happy with Troy Lee shorts/liners. Great materials, construction, design/style and fit (for me).

I'm a fan of the Troy Lee Ruckus shorts. They do have a liner (included) tho. Good quality and very comfy. This is just my opinion. :)

I'm in the Zoic Ether camp as well. My only gripe is the liners are tight as compared to my Novarra liners. Just picked these bad boys up!

I like shorts that aren't too baggy, because when you get going downhill...they open up like a parachute.

I did pick up a pair of Pearl Izumi shorts a couple months back through 6pm.com. When I got them...I found that the liner was stitched in...and it had only one pocket (give me at least two!). The liner is pretty good...but the elastic around the legs are not that comfortable.

I have two pairs that I really like. Alpinestars and Troy Lee. Material is nice on both. Both are not super baggy and don't come with liners. I wear my bibs underneath. If I'm doing rides where I'm not pedaling too much...I'll wear liners instead of the bibs.

I recommended the 2015 Fox Rangers a while back after I bought a pair, and I stand by that 6 months later. Light, comfortable, tough and cut right. They do not hang up on a saddle, nor do they balloon out like MC Hammer's pants. The liner is a bit snug on the leg, and could use a bit more junk protection, but they are cool and stink resistant.

I did recently get two pairs of Zoic Ethers from the Sports Chalet close out, at a discount (2 different stores). I like them very much!
I find the 'essential' liner a little disappointing, but the shell is great.

I use Endura shorts. Most of the time I go without a liner, just using lycra running shorts to keep the boys from slapping on the downhills. PI liners if I wear any....
That's why they say I'm a hard ass!!!

I have the Zoic Black Market shorts and they are also my fav shorts for casual wear as well, excellent
placement for phone pocket (on rear of right leg, less noticeable while pedalling) and separate key pockets, both zippered.
The liners are decent but the TLD Ace liners are slightly better (and longer). Also have/use TLD Ace and Fox Rangers
but suffice it to say, I have 6 pairs of Black Markets, wear them every day weather permitting, which is like every day here :).

Pearl Izumi Canyon shorts from the new outlet mall in San Clemente... comfiest shorts I've ever used. Even on the death marches...

I liked them so much, the wife made me go back and buy 2 extra pair.

I have a couple pair of 1-2 year old Ranger cargos that have a zipper. Bought a new pair recently and no zipper. I kinda like the zipper as long as nothing gets caught in there....
BTW, the padded liner in one of the old Rangers blew out/broke up in couple rides and I got a high end Fox liner on sale... so much better. But I guess if you're a hard ass like @rossage that don't matter...:gag:

    Still sold on Rangers myself...

I bought some TLD Ruckus shorts, and they are pretty good also, but the liner has a low-rise waist (hellllloooo asscrack) and the Rangers have a better pocket arrangement. I have a pair of Rangers with zipper, and w/o and I'm with Dave - I like the zip fly better. No difference in performance really, so not sure why. Familiarity, I suppose.

  23. Those high end Fox(and others) with welded seams are crazy expensive!!!! I picked the Rangers cause they fit me and a pair I had 10 years ago worked well.

I get troy lee stuff half off... LOVE the Rukus outer, I really don't like their liner though. I would rate it mediocre with a score of maybe 5 out of 10 stars. I recently picked up a Zoic "carbon" liner... ohhh my, just heavenly compared to the TLD. I gladly pay full pop for the zoic carbon liners and give them a 9 out of 10.

TLD Ace liners changed from 2013 to 2014, almost every user on MTBR agrees that the 2014 liners were a step down from the 2013.
I have both and def concur.

I use Dirtbaggies ($$$) and Fox Rangers. The Dirtbaggies have a roadie style bib and a shell to go over it that snaps in place.

Fox Ranger, when I need to buy a chamois too. But I prefer Fox Vindicator and then run a bib underneath, more comfortable on long rides.
