So as to NOT hijack @scan 's Holiday specific (Monday) Trailhead request, I am looking at the entire Holiday weekend and the opportunities that unfold.

Has anyone got some Epics lined up over the weekend?
    Mikie is on the prowl...:sneaky:
If not I'm gonna put one together...

You all might find this hard to believe, but I am doing an epic stay-at-home-and-do-some-local-rides weekend! (Head banger emoji).

This is typically a Big Bear weekend for me, but alas, the cabin is gone.:thumbsdown:

So here is one for you hearty souls out there.....

Looks like Sunday is gonna be the day.

I will decide on a start time later.

I've done this route a few times....looks harder than it is....but it is no lap around the Floop.

I'm running a 10k on Monday, so I'm saving my legs; otherwise I just might join J on that epic ride of his. ( Uh, no. That wouldn't really happen)
    Have fun out there.

If you are willing to have a bit more waiting than usual; when you figure out a time, let me know when you expect to be at LHJ/MD and I might try and join you via the LHJ climb rather than the full Harding route. ~50mi is still my top end. (I also won't take offense if you don't want the social pace I would force upon you! Then I could abuse myself a weee bit less :p)

I have been wanting to hit San Juan again (although this is about the longest possible way to hit it mind you).

Probably quick/short morning ride at Chino Hills to get used to the new bike.....first foray into the world of the 29'er.

Thanks...I rode it a bit on the street yesterday and have to say it feels odd. I'm also running much wider bars than I'm used to so the whole set up is strange to me. I think I may cut the bars down to around 700 mm...right now they are 740. I heard a 29'er described as being "in" the bike as opposed to being "on" the bike, and I think that's pretty accurate.

Before you cut your bars down may I suggest getting a couple of more rides in with them at that width. Or better yet, if you have lock on grips, try running them inwards on the bars on the position you feel comfortable in. After that you can decide whether or not to cut the bars.
I run 780's on my Enduro 29er and 740's on my Epic 29er.
In my opinion, the wider bars help me to keep the bike stable at high speeds and when standing I can use the width of the bars for torque.
Once you cut, there's no going back.

NOOOOOOOO! Do not cut yer bars yet. 740 is narrow by today's standard. I run 780s on a 27.5" wheeled bike and many are running 800s. 29ers could use the extra leverage, and you will get used to it quickly.

Depends on how chunky the trails are. If it's like Rattlesnake - not ready yet. If it's like Lizard - no problemo!

Ok! Ok!....I will give it some time and get used to the feel. I'm hearing that wider bars are better from everyone.
