The Cedar Canyon Trail is a point to point shuttle ride using a network of wilderness trails. The trailhead leaves exactly from the Sherman Pass parking lot, the same as the Cannell Trail. You want to park a vehicle at the Johnsondale Bridge right on the Kern River where the ride ends. There is a parking lot to do so. Then drive the riders and bikes up to the Sherman Pass parking lot.

In my opinion it is the Evil Twin to the Cannell Trail. Much more remote, far more wilderness, and a lot more technical. Although it is only 21 miles it could feel like 50 when you are done. You will be doing some hike-a-bike over large river boulders along the Kern River in the end.

Heading nearly the opposite direction from Cannell Trail, you head North on the Sherman Pass Trail starting at nearly 9200 feet elevation (so bring layers of clothing), throwing you immediately into some bouldery chunk! I highly suggest downloading the .gpx file at the bottom of this post and uploading it to you Garmin so as to not get lost, as this route switches trails at trail junctions several times. I also suggest purchasing a Trail map from here: http://www.kernriversierra.com
This is a highly detailed Mountain Biking Trail map of the Greater Kernville Area.
Be prepared on this ride. Take lots of water, food, and layers of clothing. It is also smart to bring an extra rear derailleur hanger for your bike.

If you are looking for wilderness epics... this is one of them!

Multitude of options, use a .gpx download the first time as you will get lost...

Bring your "A" Game for the very technical sections . . . or walk it.

You finish here at the Johnsondale Bridge.

How many Radiohead fans does it take to change a lightbulb? None - the lightbulb changes you.

(I made those up - to tease my Radiohead fan friends who do have a tendency to think that Radiohead is the coolest, hippest, most cerebral and philosophical art ever invented. You can smell the pretense!)

    Nice post, terrifying ride.
