Not sure if there is an ongoing book thread? Just saw @singlespeedrider post in the pet thread about completing "My Riot", (gotta read that one myself).

I just finished the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Began probably a year ago and read the 7 books (+1) over the last year. While I don't think it's my favorite series, I was eager to see how the story unfolded and follow Roland as he saw his quest through to the end. Would I go back to revisit it? Probably not, but I'll probably check out the planned tv series.

With that finished, I decided to take a break from fiction, just started "
Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God, by Greg Graffin (of Bad Religion). Had it on my kindle for a few years now and just getting around to starting it now.

    So... what are you reading?

Working through this one. It's a bit spotty. Some fantastic shorts interspersed with random POV stories from yet another cantina denizensor random stormtrooper.

Last night I started NOFX The Hepatitis Bathtub and Other Stories.

I am going to have to check out that Greg Graffin book. I think it’s right up my alley.

Thanks for that suggestion sounds like it's right up my alley.

I suggest everyone use the Libby app. It links to your library card and lets you download audio and ebooks from the public library. Works on tablets, phones, and Kindle. Free books on demand as long as the library offers it. Its free, allows you to add multiple library cards so you can browse a larger catalog.

I already downloaded Anarchy Evolution to my phone and tablet in less time than it took me to write this.

Chatted with a couple of college students who had just finished a quantum physics final the other day and I was talking about ‘In Search of Captain Zero’ and ‘Cosmic Bandidos’ by AC Weisbecker. Got me eager to re-read them since it’s been over a decade. Read both back when surfing was my life and expanding my mind was my only care in the world.

I have "In Search of Captain Zero" in my nightstand but haven't pulled the trigger on reading it yet. I recently read "Trespassing: A Novel" by Brandi Reeds and thought it was very good. Also been going through C.J Box's novels, slowly so I don't run out too soon.

I am reading Iron Man by Toni Iommi. Being the hardcore Black Sabbath fan that I am, this book is so much fun to read! These guys knew how to enjoy life and they met everyone who was anyone and they interacted with them all.

I need to expand my horizons...these are only what I've got on hand. I lost many, many books to a water event.

My wife and I love the "Joe Pickett" series. Everybody needs a friend like Nate Romanowski. We have read all 17 in order and are waiting for the new one to come out in paperback.

I like the Cody Hoyt character too. Quite a bit darker than Joe.

Another good series in a similar vein is the Mike Bowditch set by Paul Doiron. If you haven't read them yet, check out "The Poacher's Son".

I love the aluminum shim/beer can analogy. I wish I had read that book before I went to college. It gives a really good perspective on why students should be at school.

I am reading "The Axe and the Throne" by M.D. Ireman. I am a total fantasy/sci fi nerd.

I just started "The Swarm," by Orson Scott Card. It's a prequel to "Ender's Game," which was a very good story. This focuses on the 2nd Formic War...there is another couple of books focused on the 1st Formic War, but those don't actually look all that interesting to me.

I'm only a couple chapters into it, so no real impressions yet except that it succeeded in piquing my interest in the first few pages.

But then, I'm a science fiction fanatic.

If you get the chance, and rollicking, epic sci-fi is your thing (or even on your horizon), take a shot at "Battlefield Earth." No, not the movie - that was vomit-making. John Revolting should have hung up his career on that one. I'm talking about the book.

    L. Ron Hubbard may have been the nutjob extraordinaire in other things, but he was a damned good storyteller when it came to classic science fiction.

Also up there in the classics (to me) is Stephen King's "The Stand." Read it.
