Turn watch thread default off?

Is there anyway to turn the box to default in the unchecked position? Every reply to every thread is automatically watched.... I forget to uncheck it every time....

 

And how do I turn off the email notifications? Now that it's working again, I get an email for every thread I am subscribed to. This place is very active and my "email phone" is ringing off the hook!

 

Under your profile, click on "preferences" uncheck the box that says "automatically watch...."

It is the first option under "options"

 

That should fix my inquiry.

 

UPDATE:

@Mikie , I am still getting email notifications even though I unchecked the box to Automatically Watch. Do I need to go back and manually "unwatch" all the threads from the past, too?

Currently as I understand it you do have.to go to the thread and kill the watch with email notification.
